It's looking like March 08 is coming in like a lion as the snow has been falling all day ! We are busy taking care of the chores winter brings while the flower and seed books have the library looking, colorfully cluttered. Kathy has been busy making quilts and I've been utililizing my time creating more awesome chimes while planning the sculptures we'll be producing as soon as the weather begins to warm up.
As of late, I have been also busy working in the greenhouse finishing off the trim and also making shelves etc... to facilitate Kathy's baby seedlings. The past month (Feb.) was quite nasty and we had strong winds and snow numerous times.For me, February is like unwelcome house guest with bad breath that shows up every year,and over stays their welcome! I just have to remember, that spring will be here, unless we have a nuclear summer.... too deep for an artist? If you have met me, you know I'm a thinker as well as a prolific artist. I view my life as if it were a banquet, I don't gorge myself on one favorite food, I sample everything, a portion of this and that and Maybe...by the end of my life, I will look back and be honestly able to say... "I've had a great life !"
I am basically a "utopian," in that I believe that this world we live in can be harmonious if man could only realize that we are only one planet. Our planets resourses are limited, we need to be good stewards of what we've been given, and we must try to understand the rest of the world.
I know man fails miserably when it comes to working together, but I believe we must be the change we want to see in our existence here on earth!
Kathy and I are recyclers, artists, writers, and free thinkers. When I turned 50 I decided I would stay true to myself and by doing so I have concentrated on taking my art to the next level. I believe that creativity is like a mistress in that creativity likes to be showed things, taken out, listened to, nurtured, and showered with gifts. If you don't do the work she'll leave you for someone else. My basic belief is:"If I can get my mind around it, I can make it happen.
Kathy and I have a semi-self sufficient, organic, homestead where we grow most of what we eat. We have just about every fruit tree that grows well in zone 5. There is nothing like eating fresh chicken eggs year round, as well as eating fruit from our plants when they are at their prime. Kings don't eat berries as fresh as I do! There is something righteously beautiful about eating berries, wet with dew, while the sun rises and burns off the haze. Ah, I'm dreaming of summer again !
A man with dreams and no action is just a bloviater. I'm proud of what we have done on our piece of Heaven, we are blessed and we live our "hearts desire" here in western NY.
The yards and gardens may be covered with snow, and it's colder than a well digger's butt, but... it's winter ! So, stay warm, dream of spring and believe in humanity. We usually can't change other folks, we have only our selves to change. May your existence on planet earth meet and exceed your wildest dreams.
